Seeing these images by Luo Yang reminded me you should definitely read The Wind Up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakarmi, I'm a bit too tired to write a decent description but...It's about a recently unemployed man who gets into all kinds of mischief and meets lots of interesting characters after his cat disappears...told you I was tired...erm, it's really beautiful, maybe google will be able to explain better.
