Yeah Yeah Yeahs will always be one of my favourite bands, I trust them like I trust Radiohead.

Here is a taster of their new album 'It's Blitz' out April 13 download mp3 it's pretty good, nothing revolutionary but sounds like a good progression, nice and melancholic, would love to hear it on a dance floor.

New Flight of the Conchords

I quite liked the first series of Flight of the Conchords, i'm a little worried they used all their jokes up in the first series, but looking at this Michel Gondry directed video they might have a bit more in the can.

New Maccabees

Not many straight forward guitar bands keep my attention nowadays but The Maccabees manage it, the guys voice has a similar quality to Caleb Kings of Leon - whatever they sings sounds pretty good, the video is pretty gash mind. If any bands have a bit of 21st century nouse they offer their first single as a free download so they sign everyone up to the mailing list from the beginning of the campaign..The Maccabees have said nouse free mp3 here

Had to take a break from work to blog this, we have been waiting for this video forever, specially as the video for the club version of this song is wacksville. I can see why it took so long, I think it's great, same guys that did 'we are you friends' video i think, can't remember their name.

Radio 4's book of the week this week is Iain Sinclair's new book about Hackney, the book sounds great, I shall read it promptly and let you know, but until then you can listen to him reading it here or tune into radio 4 at 9.45am or 12.30am all this week. This is a really great mixtape from Brooklynite Theophilus London, lots of interesting choice of samples like Kraftwerk and Whitney Houston, it has a nice bleakness that really appeals to me, it doesn't go for the big pop hooks like Kid Cudi which is nice, it does however have a similar dance edge to Cudi..and look at the artwork, freshness. download

I think these paintings are beautiful, makes me think of some futuristic utopia dream, I might make a TV show using them as art department reference...although I was going to go down broadway market this weekend and buy banana bread, then maybe go out and drink gin and tonic at night, then not really achieve much on Sunday because football is on and fuck it's sunday, then it's back to work on Monday and I can't really achieve anything at night because I deserve a rest from working all day, then next weekend I will have forgotten the sweet taste of homemade banana cake...then I will wake up with a family and a job and be dead.

Blood Diamond & others...

Whist ill in bed (yes sympathy required) I have caught up on a few dvds. I really recommend Blood Diamond if you haven't seen it already, I was put off when it originally came out because it was marketed like an action film, but as we learnt with Slumdog Millionaire, trailers are targeted at idiots. The film does have some slightly annoying hollywood aspects but this is by far out weighed by the view of conflict in Sierra Leone we are given, the first half in particular reminded me why one should really give a fuck about Africa (and while we're at it people Gaza)

The Thick Of It is also brilliant, I don't know how I missed it when it was on TV, it is unbelievably good. The above is the opening 10 minutes and it basically shows all it's charms, It is a political comedy set in the The Department of Social Affairs, it follows the minster there, and his advisers, as well as the Alistair Campbell type figure Malcolm. Seeing Malcolm at work basically lays out how Blair's government got away with all the shit they pulled (like the Hutton report)

I also re watched Gone Baby Gone, it's still just as good as it was at the cinema, and it's not just because Casey Affleck one of my favourite people in the whole world is in it. It's written by one of the writers of The Wire, Dennis Lehane and it kind of shows, the story is great and it's all very authentic and poetic. Speaking of Casey Affleck, is this true? Joaquin Phoenix is faking going mental and Casey is filming it? why not.
